  • 2 cups apple juice

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves

  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger slices

  • 4 -6 pears, peeled, cored, and quartered

  • 1/2 cup raisins, dried cranberries or cherries

Ingredients

In apple juice, maple syrup, cloves, cinnamon, raisins and ginger....topped with yogurt. One of my favorite desserts… Use the pears of your choice. Crisp ones such as Bosc, Concorde or Seckel will take a little extra time softening than juicier varieties such as Anjou, Bartlett or Comice.

Poached Pears

  1. In a large skillet, over low heat, warm the apple juice and maple syrup along with the cinnamon stick, cloves and ginger slices. Add the pears, bring to a slow boil and simmer them s until cooked through, about 15- 20 minutes, depending on the pears. Test by poking them with a sharp knife.

  2. Remove the pears with a slotted spoon. Cook the liquid uncovered over medium-high heat until it’s syrupy, reduced more or less in half.

  3. Discard the cinnamon stick, the cloves and the ginger slices Add the raisins. Simmer covered for a few minutes longer to let them plump up.

  4. Pour this over the pears and serve. Can be served warm or at room temperature.
